Evie’s life may not be normal, but she likes to think it is, even if she works for the International Paranormal Containment Agency, her former boyfriend is a faerie, she can’t help but fall for an incarcerated shape-shifter, and she is the only one who can see through the glamours worn by paranormals. But when she learns that she is at the heart of an age-old prophecy that foretells the destruction of all paranormal creatures, she realizes her life may not be what she thought it was. So much for normal.

Paranormalcy has it all: romance, adventure, suspense. This book made me laugh out loud

The main character in Patricia Briggs’ Mercy Thompson series is a type of heroine I like to call “the flawed hero who can’t stop herself from helping those in trouble even if it gets her into trouble; sometimes potentially fatal trouble.” There are a number of supernatural series that feature this type of character - Harry Dresden from Jim Butcher’s Dresden Files, Rachel Morgan from Kim Harrison’s Hollows, Sookie Stackhouse from Charlaine Harris’ Sookie Stackhouse, the women in Kelley Armstrong’s Women of the Otherworld.

Kelley Armstrong has created a whole world similar to ours but with the addition of supernatural creatures, the stuff of myth and legend come to life.  She calls this series, Women of the Otherworld. The first book in the series, Bitten, focuses on Elena, an oddity even for this odd world. Elena is unique, the only female werewolf. There are two ways to become a werewolf. The first way is hereditary – males pass along the werewolf gene to their sons. The second way is to be bitten by a werewolf and then to survive, rare occurrences since werewolves are unlikely to stop at just one bite.

Micah live in New York City and attends a fancy private school, she is on scholarship. She lives with her parents in a small apartment and she doesn't seem to have a lot of friends. The drama starts when a boy from school, Zach is found murdered in Central Park. Micah, who narrates the story, says she barely knew Zach, just had a few classes with him but as the story goes on it is uncovered that Micah and Zach were actually secretly dating, secretly because Zach was actually dating another girl.

Turns out that Micah is a compulsive liar. She loves to see what she can get you to believe, and
