Lucid Intervals by Stuart WoodsLucid Intervals: a Stone Barrington Novel by Stuart Woods
If you have never read Stuart Woods, my only question is, why not? Lucid Intervals begins with Lawyer Stone Barrington and his ex-partner Dino Bachetti sitting in their favorite haunt, Elaine’s Diner in New York City. Herbie Fisher has just won the lottery and finds Stone at the local diner and offers him a one million dollar retainer. Herbie claims that someone is trying to kill him. Meanwhile, Stone’s unbalanced ex-wife, Dolce (daughter of a high ranking Mafioso) is stalking him and has already shot her own bodyguard. Then Felicity Devonshire, a beautiful member of British intelligence finds Stone at Elaine’s and hires him to help her find an ex-British agent, Stanley Whitestone, who has defected to New York. Lucid Intervals has Stone running in all directions trying to find Stanley Whitestone (a master of disguise), trying to protect Herbie from a potential murderer and trying to stay out of Dolce’s line of fire while enjoying interludes of pleasure with a variety of lovely women. Stuart Woods is an author that I have enjoyed for many years. I can relax and enjoy an interesting and often humorous mystery that only takes a few days to read and gives me an escape from the everyday routine. Woods has written 18 novels in the Stone Barrington series. It is not necessary to read them in order but if you do you get to know the characters a little better and you are able to watch them grow and change. The first Stone Barrington novel is New York Dead….for those who prefer starting at the beginning.
