Leap of Faith by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley is an honest and open look at faith, forgiveness, trust and honesty.  After being expelled from public school at the very beginning of 6th grade, Abby's parents enroll her at the Catholic school even though they aren't Catholic and don't even attend church regularly.  While Abby will have to attend a required religion class she also gets to pick an elective and Abby chooses drama much to her parents dismay.  They wanted her to take something academic.  However, Abby insists on drama and wins out over her parents objections.

While much of what Abby does, like insisting on drama class, and becoming interested in Catholicism are initially done in an attempt to garner attention from her parents; Abby ends up with a lead role in the school's play and develops a genuine interest in how faith works.

Through her new found faith Abby is able to forgive herself for getting expelled from her old school.    Abby also discovers that her faith and trust in God gives her the strength to be honest with her parents about how she is feeling, and she can forgive them for their disinterest and look forward to the future.
