Fire Proof by Alex Kava

Sep 26, 2012

Fireproof picks up with Maggie O’Dell where we left off in Hotwire, the last Maggie O’Dell novel by Kava.  Maggie is recovering from her ordeal and the injuries from her last case in the Nebraska Sandhills as well as from her unreasonable and politically motivated boss.  Now a serial arsonist is burning warehouses in Washington D.C. where the homeless live and until now no one had gotten hurt.  The last fire revealed the bodies of two victims who had been severely beaten.  Maggie, Tully and Julia Racine are also wondering how one news reporter and his cameraman always happen to be the first on scene at the fires.  Maggie, who should still be on medical leave, is injured when one of the buildings explodes. She must deal with her injuries, a cranky boss, her stepbrother who is living with her and may be involved, Ben her on-again off-again boyfriend and many missed clues as to what the arsonist is really up to.

Fast paced, engaging, edge-of-your-seat action leads to a finale that leaves you wanting more.  If you are a Maggie O’Dell fan this is your fix for 2012.  If you’re looking for something else to read while waiting for Kava’s next installment, try Tess Gerritsen’s Rizzoli & Isles series or Kathy Reichs’ Temperance Brennan series.
