Fairy Tale Interrupted: A Memoir of Life, Love, and Loss by RoseMarie Terenzio

Feb 9, 2013

This book is RoseMarie’s story of John F. Kennedy, Jr. and the five years that she worked for him while he was developing George magazine. It begins with her first association with John in 1994 in a work environment and chronicles their relationship through his death in 1999. She became his personal assistant during this time, with total control over his schedule and who had access to John.

The story also provides an in depth description of the author's relationship with Carolyn Bessette before and after Carolyn became Kennedy's wife. However, the focus of the book remains on John Kennedy, Jr., detailing how he handled his intense fame both as an individual and with Carolyn as a married couple. Through RoseMarie’s account, the reader gets an inside glimpse at his amazing qualities that made America fall in love with him, along with his not-so-great qualities that make him seem more human.

The book also focuses on RoseMarie, a girl from the Bronx who through honesty and hard work gained John’s complete trust over almost every aspect of his life. I never got the sense that the author wrote the book to gain fame or personal wealth from her relationship with John; instead, I felt her protective nature coming through in a fitting tribute to a great man.
