Dead Reckoning by Charlaine Harris

Jun 29, 2011

Dead Reckoning is the 11th book of the Sookie Stackhouse series, about a southern girl with telepathy living in a world where vampires and other supernatural creatures have come out of the closet.  In this latest novel, author Charlaine Harris is obviously trying to start wrapping up the series.  In a hodgepodge manner we are finally given the answer to many questions arising throughout the series, such as, "Why is Sookie telepathic?", "How can a blood bond between a vampire and human be broken?" and others.   Unfortunately, the story does not have the clever dialogue and suspenseful storyline of previous books, in fact in places it seems to be written in an entirely different manner.  I have read that Ms. Harris intends to wrap up the series in the next two books and it seems evident from this latest novel that she is firmly headed in that direction.  If you haven't read any of the previous Sookie Stackhouse books, I wouldn't bother with this one.  Go back and read the start of the series "Dead until Dark", a truly original and fun novel.
