The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert is an interesting take on dark fairy tales, but also what the definition of family is. Alice, the granddaughter of famous author Althea Proserpine, has had trouble her whole life. Alice and her mother, Ella, have been moving around their entire lives due to strange people following them or Ella’s failed relationships, and not to mention the fact that Alice was kidnapped by an oddly familiar man when she was a young child.

I love love love this book. Filled with adventure, fantasy, thrill, some romance and even a few creepy/intense moments. There was always something happening that made you want to keep reading and I personally couldn’t put it down. Both main characters, Kell and Deliah (Lila) Bard, were so loveable and I absolutely love them together and apart.

Animal Crossing: Deserted Island Diary is a graphic novel story that follows four goofy characters, Coroyuki, Benben, Himepoyo, and Guchan, as they try to create the island of their dreams. I absolutely loved this book, and it is great for fans of the Animal Crossing game. Plus, there are bonus pages for game information and a look at the author’s island. This book truly deserves five stars.

Madeline Miller’s Circe is a retelling of the ancient Greek myth of a witch with the powers of transformation. Born to Helios, the Titan god of the sun yet evidently without any powers of her own, Circe has a childhood in the shadows, largely unnoticed unless harassed. She discovers her magical abilities after picking flowers grown from the blood of gods and is cast down from the halls of the gods for her offense. Stranded on an island and forbidden to leave, a cast of characters from Greek mythology enter her story.

Insurgent is an exciting and active action thriller by Veronica Roth. This book is about a sixteen year old girl named Tris, and her boyfriend Tobias, who escape the city and go to Amity lands (one of the factions, they value peace). They then escape those lands and return to the city and take cover in the Merciless Mart (the candor building, they value honesty), they kill their dauntless traitor leader and return to the Dauntless compounds.
