John Knowles’s A Separate Peace, taking place in the 1940s, goes through the life and struggles of Gene Forrester. Gene is a quiet boy that attends The Devon School, where he meets his future friend Finny. At first, they develop a strong friendship, but it begins to turn sour as envy gets in the way. The friendship takes a dark turn as the tree jumping ritual, developed by the friends, ends in Gene pushing Finny off the tree. The rest of the book is spent on Gene trying to find himself as Finny recovers.

This nonfiction war novel was beyond impressive. This book will help you change the way you view the people involved in World War II and give you insight into the scary world of war. Louis Zamperini is the main character and the story goes in depth to tell you his background, accomplishments and role within the war. The major turn events occur when Zamperini goes from the Olympics to the military and he arrives upon difficult foreign land. I think that the most compelling aspect of this book was the continuous feeling of not knowing what will happen next.

When The World Was Ours is a heart-touching book about friendship. This book revolves around three friends Leo, Elsa and Max. When World War II breaks out they are forced to separate from one another. Once they separate all three of them go their ways and we see how their fates are intertwined. I enjoyed this book a lot because it is a short and meaningful book. The aspect I loved the most in this book is the friendship between the three main characters.

“Fools!" said the man, stamping his foot with rage. "That is the sort of talk that brought me here, and I'd better have been drowned or never born. Do you hear what I say? This is where dreams — dreams, do you understand — come to life, come real. Not daydreams: dreams.”

“Wouldn't it be dreadful if some day in our own world, at home, men start going wild inside, like the animals here, and still look like men, so that you'd never know which were which.”

The fourth book in the Narnia series, Prince Caspian is one of the most memorable ones, with all the classics of a fairytale. An evil uncle, plotting for the throne, and a young prince seeking help in what’s left of the mythical part of his kingdom.
