Madeline is very sick. She has a compromised immune system and she basically can’t leave her house. The air in her house is purified and filtered, her books have to be wrapped and packaged in a special way, and everything must be clean. She is just living her everyday life when all the sudden, a cute boy about her age moves in the house right next to hers. Madeline can’t just help but wonder what he is like and more importantly what a life with him would be like. Maybe one day she will find out.

18-year-old Madeline Whittier is a girl who is locked up in her house because of Severe Combined Immunodeficiency (SCID), which means she cannot go anywhere or touch anything that has not been sanitized. Olly Bright is a 19-year-old who just moved into the house across from Madeline. Will they never get a chance to meet and explore the world together? I really enjoyed this book with its subtle twists and turns that I never expected. For people who are fans of unexpected relationships, this book is for them! This book kept me on edge about what was going to happen next.

Will Catrina put her fears aside for her sickly sister? This book is the definition of family. Telgemeier made me feel like I was about of Catrina’s family. This heartfelt story is definitely a lesson to people. This teaches people that family is #1 and nothing can come before it.
