into a town called Pender. Clara finds a group to hang out with and they
have told the town’s scary secret: The Mumbler. The Mumbler takes kids
every October night and then they turn up dead. Clara doesn’t believe in it
but as she hears everyone’s share of tales, she wants to know who the
Mumbler really is.
The Twin by Natasha Preston is about a girl named Ivy who welcomes
her twin sister, Iris, after a fatal accident happening to their mother. Ivy
wasn’t exactly thrilled but was willing to share her life with Iris. But Iris
seems a bit obsessed with Ivy’s life. Almost wanting to take over her life.
Ivy tries to pretend she is just being paranoid but now everyone is under
Iris’s spell. Ivy must figure out what’s going on and what are Iris’s true
intentions.
The Lake by Natasha Preston is about Esme and Kayla, two girls that
come back to summer camp with a dark secret. When the girls pretend
everything is just as it always is, a message appears. A message that
might potentially be a threat to Esme and Kayla, but one thing is for sure.
They know their secret. And they want them to come clean about it, also to
face the consequences of their actions.
Wilder Girls, the debut novel of Rory Power, is the horror story of best friends Hetty, Byatt, and Reese. They have been stuck in Raxter, the island in which their school for girls is on, for eighteen months, quarantined and away from the world because of the Tox, the deadly disease that has claimed the lives of teachers and students alike. The Tox, though, gives surprising but strange abilities to the girls that do survive it, as well as gruesome liabilities. Double heartbeats, gills, second spines.
Home Before Dark is an exceptionally well-written psychological mystery book. While reading this book I felt several different emotions. At the beginning of the book it was somewhat of a slow read, showing you the daily life of the main character, but as the story accelerates the story gets more and more fascinating. There are so many different twists in the book and none of the aspects are too predictable making it an enjoyable read.
The Dead and the Dark by Courtney Gould is a young adult paranormal thriller that follows the adventures of a teenage girl as she tries to unravel the mysteries of a small town in Oregon. Logan’s parents are famous ghosthunters, but when they return to their hometown to film their show, Logan knows something more is going on. Along with some local teens, Logan investigates the darkness that consumes the town. While Gould maintains an ominous tone throughout the novel, I didn’t find most of the story very creepy.
The Oracle Code is a mysterious and thrilling graphic novel by Marieke Nijkamp. This book is about a girl named Barbra, but everyone calls her Babs. She got shot and has to go to a rehab school where they try to fix kids like her. Barbra makes some friends who help her find former students who disappear without a trace.
Sixth grader Josie, her sister, and her mother both moved to their grandmother's house. Even though Josie does not like the town, she has to adjust to it. Weird things happen once her grandmother starts giving off warnings and rules. Then, one day at school, Josie meets a new girl named Vanessa. They become best friends. Suddenly, people from her school start to disappear. What or who is behind the disappearance?
