The Hammer of Thor is the second book in the Magnus Chase series and is written by Rick Riordan. In the previous book, Magnus and his friends learn that Thor has misplaced his famous hammer, but it’s not given much thought because it’s a common habit of his. However, it becomes a big issue when it’s learned that Thor’s hammer has fallen into enemy hands. In this book, Magnus and his friends must find the hammer quickly or else the mortal worlds will be destroyed by an army of giants.

I love the first book because of Riordan’s ability to create great characters, and I believe this book is a great sequel to an amazing debut. Here, Riordan’s quality of writing is around the same as it was in the first book, with introductions to more characters and even more humor. Magnus and his trio of friends stand out, and Jack the sword is still the funniest guy in the story (sorry Magnus). One thing I do have a problem within this book is its pacing. There are times where it feels like it drags a bit, and I feel like there’s too much downtime in the middle of the plot. However, the ending of the book is absolutely crazy, so I think it cancels out in the grand scheme of things, but I thought it was worth pointing out. Besides that, I think this book is a great sequel, with moments that might even clear the first book. If you loved the first book, then you won’t close this book disappointed!
