The Son of Neptune is the second book in the Heroes of Olympus series and is written by Rick Riordan. In this book, Percy Jackson is back (though hit with a severe case of amnesia) and meets a camp of Roman demigods. From here, he goes on a quest with Hazel Levesque and Frank Zhang to Alaska to free Thanatos, the Greek god of death. Obviously, the biggest thing here is the return of Percy Jackson, which will excite many fans, and it’s interesting to see him in a new and unfamiliar environment. However, this shouldn’t overshadow the inclusion of Hazel and Frank, who both have tragic stories of their own. The inclusion of a Roman camp is a big addition to this universe, but Rick Riordan, being the ultimate world-builder, seamlessly embeds vivid and creative mythology into this world. Just like the first book in this series, I love this second book too because it’s a great introduction to the Roman world and it’s fun to see someone we all know and love in an unfamiliar world again. Once again, the story flows great, and the action is amazing. This book is a very worth sequel to the first book, and the ending will have hard core fans excited for the third book!
