Last Night at the Telegraph Club is an amazing and detailed historical fiction novel set in 1950s San Francisco, during the Red Scare, when there was a lot of cultural conservatism in America. The book is about 17-year-old Lily Hu, a Chinese American girl living in Chinatown, who is dealing with the struggles of her identity, family expectations and love. Lily is a very smart student who dreams of working at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

This book tells the story of Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, two brothers from Germany who loved stories. They lived a long time ago, in the 1800s, and worked as teachers and librarians. The Brothers Grimm are best known for writing down old fairy tales like Cinderella, Snow White, Hansel and Gretel and Rapunzel. People used to tell these stories out loud, but the brothers wrote them down so they wouldn’t be lost. The book shows how they collected the stories and how their fairy tales became famous all over the world.

The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros is an interesting book about a girl named Esperanza. This book is unique because it follows Esperanza’s life, but instead of being a continuous story throughout, we see her story through snippets of her life. Esperanza grew up in a poor neighborhood. We see important parts of her life and how these memories shaped her into who she became. I loved this book because it is a unique story that sends a strong message to its readers.
