The Outsiders is about 14-year-old Ponyboy Curtis and his two older brothers, Soda and Darry. The boys are orphans and struggle to stick together in their lower-class neighborhood, known as the East Side. They and their friends are part of a gang of working class boys called the Greasers. The book follows Ponyboy as his life gets thrown off course after a rival gang, the Socs, beat him and one of his friends up, causing a chain of events that changes Ponyboy’s life.
This book is about 2 girls, Penny and Tate. They both have been bickering over little things for a long time although their moms are best friends. Penny’s mom is about to give her liver to Tate’s mother and for financial purposes, the two families decide to combine households. They decide to have a truce but the only problem is that they can’t stop kissing each other.
The story follows 16-year-old America Singer, a member of the mid-class Five caste who is trained as a musician. When America gets an invitation to compete in the Selection, a competition where 35 young women compete for Prince Maxon's hand in marriage. Her mother is desperate for her to win so they can become rich. However, America has a boyfriend named Aspen, a Six, and doesn't want to participate. America originally wants to go back home and get Aspen to be her boyfriend again, but she discovers her feelings for Maxon later and now she doesn’t know what to do.
In this volume, Nick and Charlie wonder if they should take their relationship a step forward and strengthen their physical relationship. This topic is widely talked about in their school, friend groups and even their families. Another major plot point is that Nick is going to be going to college and they try to get over this challenge.
Carley Connors has just had her entire life upturned after a traumatic accident left her and her mother in the hospital. Since her mother was in an extremely bad state, Carley had to stay with a foster family. Her “new” family was not what she was expecting at all. Carley discovers what it really means to be a family in this stunning YA debut novel by Lynda Mullaly Hunt. This book is really good, and is one of my favorites. The characters are all very well written, and it makes you feel as if they are all real. This book was really sad, but it is a very good read.
Nate is sick and tired of Jefferson winning all the time. That is, Jefferson Middle School, who seems to be better than P.S. 38, at EVERYTHING. From basketball, to soccer, to even academics, Jefferson always finds a way to beat P.S. 38. But when the P.S. 38 buildings are discovered to have multiple problems that are so bad that classes can’t resume, where do you think Nate and friends are supposed to go? That’s right, Jefferson Middle School, which is just as snobby as the students. But everyone has an Achilles' heel, even Jefferson.
The Running Dream is a beautifully written book about resilience and courage. This book follows the journey of a girl named Jessica who is a high school student. Jessica loves track and running but when she gets into a terrible bus accident and loses her leg she must learn how to cope with this loss. I enjoyed this story because it is a very heart-warming story. I also enjoyed how the story played out. The part of the book that I liked the most was the angle of friendship it had.
The story starts off in PS 38 Middle school, focused on Nate Wright as the main character. He’s stuck with Gina, his all-time enemy, in a class project for his least favorite teacher Mrs. Godfrey, aka Godzilla. To make matters worse, Gina ALSO ends up on his fleeceball team, right when Nate is set to win his first fleeceball championship ever. This is his moment for glory, but Gina's sure to steal his thunder, or ruin everything. Will Nate win or lose? Pass or fail? Or end up in detention . . . AGAIN?
Defy the Night is a very intriguing novel that is about a world that is grappling with a very deadly disease. This book follows the story of Tessa, a brave girl who is trying to help her townspeople. During this journey, Tessa must steal from the crown to get the disease cure and while doing this she discovers many secrets about the crown that completely change her view of the world that she is living in. I loved this story because the plot keeps you on your toes the entire time.
Pretties by Scott Westerfeld is the sequel to the book Uglies, and the second book in the trilogy. This book is about how Tally finally accomplishes her dream of becoming pretty, and the adventure of when she remembers some things the government deliberately programed her not to. Tally goes on a mission to find out why she remembered this and what she is to do with this memory.
