Lady Bird is an incredible film about a teenage girl named Christine, who goes by Lady Bird. She lives in Sacramento, California, with her parents and brother. Lady Bird hopes to escape her small town and become something big. She believes her only chance of doing this is to go to college on the east coast, so she can leave her family and be successful. Lady Bird has a complicated relationship with almost everyone in her life, the main one being her mother.

Mean Girls is a film about a teenage girl named Cady, who had just moved to America from Africa. She is attending high school for the first time, as she had always been home-schooled before. At the beginning, she meets two true friends, Janice and Damian. These friends help her to understand the groupings that are set up in high school, and they warn her to not go near the “Plastics”, a group of popular girls at the school.

The Breakfast Club is a film about a group of students who all get called into detention. Each one of these students comes from a different background: a popular girl, jock guy, weird girl, rebel guy, and nerdy boy. During these long hours of being stuck in the same classroom together, they begin to find things they have in common, and they start to reveal things about themselves. Throughout this, they are able to all become friends, and understand the point of view of other stereotypes.

This book is set in a fantasy world called The Kingdom of Kandala, where a dangerous sickness has spread all over the country. The cure for the sickness is an elixir that requires the petals of a very rare and expensive flower. Tessa is a young girl who lives in a poor sector of Kandala. She, and the other people in her sector, cannot afford the cure to the sickness. To help the people in her community, Tessa meets up with a person named Weston. Together, they both steal from the rich in order to make the elixir to prevent the disease.

10 Things I Hate About You is a film about a rebellious and edgy girl named Kat. Kat has a younger sister named Bianca, who is kind and popular. The two sisters have a very strict father, who is incredibly strict about boys in particular. Bianca is very eager to have a boyfriend, and she asks her father if she is allowed to. In return, her father says that she is only allowed to date when Kat does. As Kat has no interest in boys, this makes it incredibly hard for Bianca.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower is about a teenage boy named Charlie. Charlie is struggling as a freshman in high school, and finds it hard to make friends. He battles difficult mental health conditions, and loneliness as well. His life begins to turn around when he meets two seniors, named Patrick and Sam. They invite Charlie into their friend group, when he begins to learn the reality of what high school is actually like. They help Charlie try to be happier, and battle his past trauma.

Cordelia Mai Yin and four other women with the middle name “Mai” find an apartment with the help of a mysterious man. As a second generation Vietnamese immigrant in 1959 Los Angeles, Cordi struggles to find a job and earn enough money to live off. So when the man who helped the Mais, as the roommates dub themselves, offers them a way to make all their dreams come true through magic, they jump on the chance. But, “nothing good comes for free" (pg. 69) and as the Mais dreams and wishes come true, so does the price they must pay for them.
