The slow-burn romance throughout the book was what kept me reading. Poppy and Henry are the main characters and they have been friends since college. The book started off talking about how they hadn't talked in two years, but included well-transitioned flashbacks to when they met. They had taken annual summer trips ever since college and this is how they rekindled their friendship. This book is a well-created friends-to-lovers trope book. I really enjoyed this book because the characters were flawed and real.

This book was a reflection of a dystopian society set in the year 1984. Winston Smith, a member of Oceania who rebelled against the Party. The Party was the government system in place of the city of Oceania, and the rules provided were absurd and compelling. An addition from the Party was Big Brother. The Big Brother was something that was always watching the citizens of society, and was the symbol of the Party. I think that this book was a compelling view of how society can be run by the government in such a controlling way.

The plot twists within this book made me want to keep reading until I figured out what was going to happen. This book was full of intense and suspenseful moments and had my attention the whole time. The main character is Lowen Ashley, a writer who was struggling with inspiration and this leads to her accepting a job that is going to change her. Jeremy Crawford, who is married to the author Verity, hired Lowen to complete the books series Verity was writing. She was unable to fill her contract due to a medical issue and so, Lowen was offered the opportunity to finish the series.
