The novel Homegoing, is an eye-opening story that depicts an unflinching portrayal of the slave trade exports in the 18th century and its contrasting impacts down the generations. Gyasi conveys these struggles by sharing the stories of two half-sisters (and their descendants), Effia and Esi, one who married a wealthy English man and the other who was sold into slavery, representing how slavery destroyed one line of the family while it cursed the other.

Raina telling the story of her and her sisters’ relationship when they were younger has that personal touch to the graphic novel. This book is great for kids with siblings to understand that finding is not always the way out. This book is a 10 out of 10 in my book!!

Will Catrina put her fears aside for her sickly sister? This book is the definition of family. Telgemeier made me feel like I was about of Catrina’s family. This heartfelt story is definitely a lesson to people. This teaches people that family is #1 and nothing can come before it.

What seemed like a simple prank led to a story of untangling of a secret buried under years of deception. Three Black Swans is a YA suspenseful fiction book by Caroline Cooney. Overall, I would rate this book a 2.5 stars out of 5. The concept was interesting and the beginning of the book was engaging.
