If You Could See the Sun by Ann Liang follows the classic enemies to lovers plot but with a twist. When Chloe, an overachieving student, finds out that her parents can no longer afford to pay for her fancy private school on the same day she finds out she can turn invisible, she is devastated. But out of desperation she decides to take advantage of her mysterious power and strikes a deal with the schools most popular guy who is also her academic rival. We follow her story as she tries to keep her entire life together.

Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson, is a young adult mystery thriller set in Ellingham Academy, a famously selective boarding school in Vermont. True crime obsessed Stevie Bell applies to the school for one reason: to solve the murder of Albert Ellingham’s wife and daughter, who were killed years ago when the school first opened. The killer, known as Truly Devious by the public, is supposed to be long gone.

If You Could See the Sun features Alice Sun, the only student at her prestigious school on scholarship while the others are the heirs of wealthy businesses or the children of famous models. Alice has only one plan: graduate and get rich enough to support herself and her parents, a task that can only be done through her elite school. However, a problem occurs when her parents reveal to her that they can no longer afford her tuition and that Alice must choose a different school that is public.

John Green writes novels for young adults, but you don't have to be young to enjoy them.  I'm forty-three, and he's one of my favorite contemporary authors.
