The Dead and the Dark by Courtney Gould is a young adult paranormal thriller that follows the adventures of a teenage girl as she tries to unravel the mysteries of a small town in Oregon. Logan’s parents are famous ghosthunters, but when they return to their hometown to film their show, Logan knows something more is going on. Along with some local teens, Logan investigates the darkness that consumes the town. While Gould maintains an ominous tone throughout the novel, I didn’t find most of the story very creepy.

Becca is a new girl in high school which is never easy. Luckily, the popular girls take her in and while they expect some things of her that she isn’t quite comfortable with, she goes along with it. Until it turns out there’s a reason the girls run this high school, and it’s not pleasant. Squad is a story that talks about the struggles of being out of place. It shows how conforming isn’t always the best idea and can lead to issues. It addresses themes such as patriarchal issues, LGBTQ+ representation, being different, and not being complacent. I rate Squad 4 out of 5 stars.

Bloodlines by Richelle Mead is a paranormal, young adult, Vampire Academy spin-off series. Jill Dragomir is in danger, threatening Lissa’s place as queen. When Jill is sent into hiding, Sydney is assigned to be her protector. Her childhood was defined by the condemnation of Moroi, but now she must live among them. Although I didn’t care for Sydney in the Vampire Academy books, I was hooked on her character by the end of this novel.

This book has 6 different ghost stories. The main character in each book is Nancy Drew. She has to solve the mystery of The Campus Ghost, The Ghost Dogs of Whispering Oaks, Blackbeard’s Skull, The Ghost Jogger, The Curse of the Frog, and The Greenhouse Ghost. Nancy Drew doesn’t believe in ghosts but things like dogs that are dead coming back alive change Nancy Drew’s mind. These are six scary bone-chilling stories that you must read!

The sixth and final book in the Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead, Last Sacrifice, was a great finale. Queen Tatianna is murdered, and Rose is framed by an unknown source; Rose, Lissa, and friends must figure out who framed Rose and find Lissa’s hidden half-sibling to make things right. This installment was much better than Spirit Bound; it took on more of an exciting and mysterious thriller quality than its predecessors, and Rose seemed more like her old self.

Spirit Bound, the fifth novel in Richelle Mead’s Vampire Academy series, was all over the place. After returning from her journey to Siberia, Rose is caught up in the hope of turning Dimitri back into a damphir. Rose recruits Lissa, Eddie, and some unlikely friends to return Dimitri to his original state while preparing to become an ocial guardian. This book was more drawn out than it needed to be; it was especially slow initially; however, things did pick up closer to the middle of the book.

Blood Promise, the fourth book in Richelle Mead's Vampire Academy series, is the best of the series so far. After Dimitri is turned into a strigoi, Rose abandons her old life, including her best friend, to find and kill the man she loved. After traveling to Russia, Rose finally finds Dimitri, but instead of killing him, she is kidnapped by him. While Rose is being held by a group of strigoi, Lissa is stuck at St.

As a rewrite of Obsidian, I expected Oblivion to fall flat or be a copy, but Jennifer L. Armentrout’s writing truly made this addition as spectacular as its predecessors. Oblivion is a new version of the first book of the Lux series, Obsidian, but from Daemon’s perspective instead of Katy’s.

Opposition is the fifth and final book in Jennifer L. Armentrout’s Lux series. This book begins right where Origin left off; Katy, Beth, Luc, and Archer are separated from the Black siblings after a group of Luxen arrive on Earth. This book will determine how far Daemon and his siblings will go to protect the people they love.

Origin, the fourth book in the Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout, is somehow better than the series’ previous novels. After a failed attempt to raid Mount Weather and make it out in one piece, Katy is stuck behind enemy lines, and Daemon will do anything to get her back, even join her. While held by Dedalus, Katy, Daemon, and friends will uncover new secrets that will change everything.
