Love and Gelato, written by Jenna Evan Welch follows Carolina (nicknamed Lina), a young girl who loses her mother to pancreatic cancer. Upon her death, her mother sends her to Florence, Italy to live with her supposed “father”, Howard. When she arrives, she is unpleasantly surprised to learn that she will now live in a graveyard. With everything seemingly going wrong, she plans to run away until she finds a journal her mother left behind that changes everything.
Through the book, you learn with Lina to love Italy and become close to the people around her (including her new best friend Ren). Love and Gelato was a fun read I would recommend for anyone looking for a book to read at the beach or just as a cooldown after reading something more difficult. I wouldn’t describe it as anything special, but it is a short and sweet story maybe for a younger audience. I give it 4 stars because while it isn’t amazing like some other stories I’ve read; it is cute and enjoyable.
