In A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas, Feyre is a human girl who lives with her two sisters and father. Feyre and her family live in a world where they are separated from faeries by a wall. Feyre’s family is extremely poor, and she is the only reason they are able to survive because she hunts in the forest near her house. One day, she encounters a huge wolf which she effortlessly kills with an arrow. Little did she know that the wolf was really a faerie in disguise. She is taken away to the other side of the wall to the faerie land and must live in a high lord’s house as outlined in a treaty that holds balance between the humans and faeries.

I enjoyed reading this book. I think Maas does a nice job of laying out a setting at the beginning that I am able to visualize. I really admired Feyre since the start of the novel, as she hunted to feed her family and seemed like a genuinely kind individual. I do wish that there was more detail on the side characters such as Lucien, but I do not think that it takes anything away from the story. The development in Feyre and Tamlin’s relationship was not too rushed, and I liked the enemies to lover’s trope. I would recommend this to anyone who likes to read fantasy and romance. I give this book a 4 out of 5 stars.
