Stefania “Fusia” Podgorska was just a teenager when German bombs rained down on her city of

Przemsyl, Poland. She used to work at a local shop with the Diamant family, who she grew close

to over the years. Fusia even made an agreement with one of the sons, Izio, to get married. But

Stefania is Roman Catholic, and Izio is Jewish, meaning that this must be kept a secret. As the

Germans invade Poland and anti-Semitism grows, Stefania knows she has to do something to

Twilight is perhaps the quintessential YA romance novel, notorious for its movie

adaptation and public division over the love interests. Bella Swan has just left her big-city life in

Phoenix to join her father in the small forested town of Forks, Washington. Not even past the

first day of school, she begins to notice odd things - like the pale and beautiful but isolated

family that is the Cullens. Especially Edward Cullen - who seems completely infuriated and

It Ends With Us is probably the most recommended book of the past few years - from its

romance to powerful message, no one can put it down. The novel starts on a high rooftop in

Boston with heightened emotions all around. After refusing to speak at her abusive father’s

funeral, a sad but conflicted Lily meets Ryle - an upset neurosurgeon - high above the Boston

skyline. Both deep in their feelings and without care for what the other thought of them, they

Girls of Paper and Fire, by Natasha Ngan, is set in a world brimming with

demons, living alongside humans. As our story begins, Lei is taken from her home to

become one of the king’s concubines, a Paper Girl; girls from the lowest caste, fully

human. When Lei arrives at the palace, she discovers that she has no hope, not of

escaping, not of ever seeing her family again, and not of ever having a choice again.
