This historical fiction book is a profound narrative that recounts the story of Abilene Tucker’s move to Manifest, Kansas. In moving to Manifest, Abilene soon discovers that the town is full of secrets, many that include her family. With her newfound knowledge, Abilene is determined to uncover the truth of her ancestors and Manifest.

This book was very well-written and kept me engaged the whole time. Vanderpool was able to transform a traditionally boring plot and setting into something intriguing and wonderful. The only thing I didn’t like about the book was that many of the characters did not get developed very well. I wish we would have gotten more content on Abilene’s friends and the other citizens in the town. It seemed like they were just kind of there to add more characters instead of really having a purpose, which I think could have gotten fixed by developing them more. That being said, I still greatly enjoyed reading the book and would recommend this to people who are drawn to historical fiction and suspense.
