Witch and Wizard by James Patterson is about two magical siblings named Wisty and Whit, who live in a society where the New Order, an evil government, is in total control. Magic is not allowed. The two, along with their parents, are charged with witchcraft and taken away. Wisty and Whit have no idea why they’ve been taken, along with many other children in this society. However, when they begin to show magical powers, they realize they might stand a chance to not only escape their prison, but save their parents and the world. However interesting this plot might seem, I found this book to be less enjoyable than I expected. The main characters, Wisty and Whit, came off as selfish and annoying. The mix between fantasy and dystopian didn’t seem to ever fully fit together, and Witch and Wizard was also filled to the brim with cliches. The writing, although occasionally funny, was mostly irritating and almost cringeworthy. Overall, I found this book to be most bland, with the occasional exciting or funny moment.
