Who Was Walt Whitman? tells the story of a man who began as a printer and became one of America’s most famous poets. He was born in New York and had many jobs, like being a teacher, a newspaper writer, and an editor. In 1855, he wrote a book of poems called Leaves of Grass. His poems were special because they talked about regular people, nature, and how everyone is connected. At first, some people didn’t like his poems, but later, his writing changed American poetry in a big way. He also helped soldiers during the Civil War and believed that words could bring people together.

This is a great book for kids who want to learn about poetry, history, and people who made a difference. It shows how Walt Whitman used his poems to share important ideas and help people see beauty in the world around them. It teaches readers that with creativity and hard work, you can make a big difference in the world. Three out of five stars.
