The Tyrant’s Tomb is the fourth book in the Trials of Apollo series and is written by Rick Riordan. In this book, Apollo travels to Camp Jupiter to continue his mission to stop the three emperors and learn to be a hero. I say that he has to learn to be a hero because this book challenges Apollo the most. In the previous books, Apollo has been tested before, but it’s this book where he finally realizes the corruption and ignorance of the gods, and it’s also the book where Rick Riordan depicts heroism the best. As a result, this one ups the third book (which I said was the best book in the series at the time) as the best book in the series and might even be one of Riordan’s best. Apollo and Meg continue their character arcs and as they experience more and more losses, we start to see it wear on them too. Clearly this journey hasn’t been easy on them, and it shows when you compare how they start in this book to how they are when the book ends. This book tackles a lot of mature and strong themes that Riordan hasn’t really attempted to delve deep in before, yet he does a careful examination with the care that it deserves. It’s a brilliant book that should be considered as one of the series’ best.
