Slacker by Gordon Korman is a novel that centers on Cameron Boxer. Cameron is your average teenager who hates homework and plays video games.  Except, he might be hating homework a bit too much as he does not even bother to do it and instead plays video games for most of his free time because he wants to become a championship gamer. This lifestyle comes to a screeching halt when he is grounded.  He almost let his house burn down trying to focus on a game and beat his nemesis. In order to make up for the incident, Cameron and his friends start a club on the school website. The catch? It is not a real club. The club is called Positive Action Group and they really don’t plan to do anything until they start getting members and the guidance counselor becomes their advisor. Soon, Cameron does not have any time for his video games and is now tasked with managing a club he didn’t even want to be a part of.

Personally, I liked this book although the characters were a bit cliché.  I think the plot was very original and interesting. Seeing Cameron’s growth throughout the book was definitely inspiring. I would recommend this book to anyone just looking for a fun read as this book is perfect for all ages and is a classic.
