The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid is an Old-Hollywood read centered around Evelyn Hugo, a legendary actress. Evelyn’s life story, and the truth about her seven husbands, has never been revealed–until now. Evelyn decides to give newbie journalist Monique Grant the opportunity of a lifetime; to write a piece on Evelyn herself directly from the retired actress. The book moves between past and present, and depicts Evelyn in a different light than what the world would have thought the stunning, enticing, innocent Evelyn Hugo was. It also asks the question: why did Evelyn Hugo choose Monique Grant, of all people, to write this multi-million dollar story?

This book was amazing. I loved the strongly developed character of Evelyn Hugo. She was this innately powerful, bombshell actress in the mid to late 1900s that broke gender roles. I did not see the huge twist talked about in the book and was shocked when I read about it. Reid’s writing style is impeccable, and I would 100% read another book by her. I would recommend this novel to an older audience, probably high school onwards, as there is some mature content.
