The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is a story centered around the main character- Evelyn Hugo- but written from the perspective of local aspiring writer, Monique Grant. Monique has landed insignificant and small jobs at her writing firm so far and is waiting for her big break. When she learns that the one and only Evelyn Hugo asked for her to interview Evelyn, she realizes this is the opportunity she has been waiting for. After she meets up with Evelyn, though, things take a turn and it seems that Evelyn has plans of her own with Monique. Evelyn wants her life story to be written in a biography, with only the facts. Towards the end, Monique makes a shocking discovery about why Evelyn has chosen her to write the story, and the story makes a complete circle.

This novel is very highly rated and popular in the book world. I read this book with high hopes and although I wasn’t disappointed, it didn’t exactly exceed expectations in the way I thought it would. The most compelling aspect of the book was how the story was so intriguing in the beginning, as Evelyn brought up so many unanswered questions and brought mystery to the story. As the mystery began to unravel and the questions started being answered, though, I found myself a little disappointed. The plot in the middle of the book was repetitive at times when Evelyn was explaining the cause of her fame and her seven husbands. The part of the story I did enjoy was the message behind the entire book. It explores themes of love, greed, sacrifice, and friendship. Also, the book was eventful and I didn't find myself bored or uninterested at any point in the story. The author did a good job in capturing the reader’s attention and keeping it.

I would rate this book 4 stars out of 5 and recommend it to readers who enjoy romantic novels with the theme centered around love. I would recommend this to readers from age 14 and up.
