The Serpent’s Shadow is the third and final entry in The Kane Chronicles and is written by Rick Riordan. In this final book, Apophis, the serpent of chaos, plans to throw the world into eternal darkness. Carter and Sadie Kane must stop him from doing so by relying on a dangerous ghost and ancient spells to save the world. I thought the first two books in this series were very good, but I have to say that this is the best one yet. All the characters in this book shine, from Carter and Sadie Kane to Ra. I especially love the gods in this book because after reading the Percy Jackson series, I’m finally happy to see powerful beings who aren’t jerks. The gods in this book, though not perfect, have a lot of personality to them and feel like distinct characters. They feel like regular humans with powers, but they have some sense of wisdom and knowledge to them too. One thing I praised in the last book was Apophis because I thought he was a good villain, and I feel like the same remains here. Apophis is a constant threat, and his presence makes the story very tense. The story is very good and satisfying, and the plot is great. I like this book a lot because I can’t really find a problem with it. Everything about it is solid, and that’s why it’s so great. To all readers, I would say it’s a great conclusion to a great series.
