Nova Artino is a villain, but Adrian Everhart does not know that. In a world where having super powers is common, there is a struggle between the Anarchists and the Renegades in Gatlon City. The beginning of this problem started when Nova was just a child, where people with powers were being persecuted, and her uncle, Ace Anarchy fought alongside others for  their rights to live a normal life. Hugh Everhart began the Renegades during this time too, however he saw that the Anarchist way was hurting too many people, and took down Ace Anarchy. Several years later, Nova and the Anarchists are outcasts because of their villainous past, and they want their freedom from the rule of the Renegades who now govern the whole city. Nova is sent undercover to pose as a hero to infiltrate the Renegades. Throughout the book, Nova struggles with allegiance to her group, which is like family to her, because she sees the good intentions of both sides, but knows that both groups have their flaws. It doesn’t help that she becomes especially close to the son of Hugh Everhart, Adrian, when she is supposed to hate his whole family.

The Renegades series by Marissa Meyer is a fast paced read that I couldn’t put down. I think this story has a great mix of action with drama. This story is especially great for someone who wants to read a story about heroes but doesn’t want to get invested with Marvel or other series that have so many elements and background knowledge needed to understand the whole story universe. I especially like Nova because she is portrayed as a strong female character who is capable of being strong and fighting for something she believes in. Lastly, the ending of this book left a great cliffhanger that made me immediately get the next book, so I think it is fair to give it 5 stars because of how much I have enjoyed and reread this book.
