The movie Race follows the story of Jesse Owens in his life and athletics, leading up to the 1936 Olympics. Jesse starts out in his home state of Alabama with his family, girlfriend, and daughter. People know how great of an athlete he is, but his full potential is realized when he gets the opportunity to go to college at Ohio State University to participate in track. He becomes a star, beating world records and making it look easy. But as he is accomplishing all of these extraordinary things, he is getting into trouble and starts to mess around with a girl, leaving his girlfriend who is the mother of his child, distraught and angry. Jesse Owens continues to shock people around the world as he makes his way to the 1936 Olympics. The issue is deciding if he will participate in the games or not, as this is the year Hitler hosted the Olympics and he has to decide if he will stand up for what is right, or take his only chance at becoming a gold medalist. Owens decides to go to the games, and the rest is history!

This movie was much better than I thought it would. I liked how it followed Jesse Owens personal life, his athletic life, and the drama going on with the United State Olympic Committee. One very strong complaint I have about this movie is that some parts of the movie were spoken in German, and there was no translation provided. If there was a translation, the movie would have been much easier to follow. Other than that, I truly enjoyed the film and I would recommend this to someone who is usually a fan of fiction movies and wants to branch out a bit.
