Othello is a romantic tragedy play written by William Shakespeare. This play is about the Moor of Venice, Othello and what tragedies struck in his life after his marriage. He is married to Desdemona, and even though her father does not approve at first they have a love marriage. Iago is his servant and he plots with Roderigo, who is Desdemona’s lover to plot against Othello. They want to lead to the downfall of Othello striking at him and his trusted people. Iago initiates wicked plots to frame the Moor’s wife of having an affair to destroy Othello, as his revenge. Even though at first Otheloo was not affected he starts believing this lie more and more. Iago slyly uses non-evidence as evidence for the affair to prove to Othello. Othello and the actions people do around him cause him to get irritated and Iago’s plot is working as this is mentally destructing Othello is the process.

The most compelling aspect was when Iago successfully proves the affair with false evidence. This was upsetting since his wife is very innocent, and the people around him are loyal, however he listens to the shrewd one instead of the truthful ones. This was since people that should not have been harmed were hurt in the process, as Iago took an unfair advantage of many situations. This book inspired me to think and feel about how one person can affect a lot of people’s lives. I also have learned how jealousy can transform one and many lives. I would give this play a 6 out of 10, as the violence and poor acts performed does affect you. However, I recommend this to anyone who likes plays with romantic tragedies. Overall, I enjoyed reading this play, as I learned about different forms of writing.
