One of Us Is Lying by Karen M. McManus is a gripping young adult mystery novel that unfolds after five high school students enter detention, but only four come out alive. Simon, the creator of a notorious gossip app, dies during the detention, and the remaining four students become suspects in his murder. The story delves into the secrets and complexities of each character as they navigate the investigation, revealing hidden truths, personal struggles, and unexpected connections. As the plot twists and turns, the novel explores themes of friendship, betrayal, and the consequences of societal expectations. This book kept me on the edge of my seat until the shocking conclusion.

The most compelling aspect of One of Us Is Lying to be its clever blend of suspense, character development, and unexpected twists. The story kept me engaged with its well-paced narrative and keeps them guessing until the end. The characters' diverse personalities and the exploration of their secrets add depth to the plot, making it more than just a typical mystery. However, I felt that certain plot elements are a bit predictable or fall into familiar teen drama novels. Overall, the book inspired many emotions, from anticipation to shock. It's a thrilling read, and I would recommend this book for fans of mystery and suspense, particularly those who enjoy young adult fiction with a touch of psychological intrigue. I give this book a four out of five stars.
