In The One by Kiera Cass, only four girls remain in The Selection. The competition must soon come to an end, as tensions between Illea and the neighboring rebels intensify. Maxon has a difficult time choosing between two girls, and America must decide whether she wants to really be a princess in the end.

I loved reading about Maxon and America as they engage with the rebels. I like that the author included much more about the rebels and the history of Gregor Illea. I do wish that there was more elaboration on America’s father and his involvement in the rebellion. After America discovered this about her father, there was no more mention and I feel like this topic ended quite abruptly. It was nice to see how the four remaining girls became close and treated each other as family. Celeste’s backstory was a nice addition, which I think helped mend her and America's relationship. I believe that America found herself as a person and became more self-confident in her actions. I appreciated that her values didn’t change even though her life changed by staying at the palace.
