Monty Python and the Holy Grail is a timeless classic filled with moments of levity. Scenes like the “burn the witch” incident, the use of the Holy Hand Grenade, the discussion about swallows and Lancelot running continually toward the castle without making any progress whatsoever will be deeply ingrained in the minds of viewers long after they watch the movie. Holy Grail has also remained culturally relevant, sparking memes such as the “‘Tis but a scratch” meme spawned from King Arthur’s fight with the Black Knight.

But, the movie is not just funny; it is intelligent. The movie calculatedly pokes fun at religion, depicting King Arthur as a god-fearing man who grovels in front of an apparition of the Lord and uses his name in vain not thirty seconds later. This sophisticated satire, paired with instances of more crude, surface level comedy, ensures that the movie will appeal to a variety of viewers regardless of age or background.

Whether you are already familiar with Monty Python’s comedy or not, if you consider yourself to be a fan of comedy in any form, this movie is worth watching for its perfected satirical comedy and zany humor.
