A Review of John Steinbeck’s Fictional Literary Work: Of Mice and Men

The work follows the life of Lennie Small, a large man with mental illness, and George Milton, a small hardened man who makes decisions for Lennie. The two friends dream of owning a little farmhouse someday, land of their own to do whatever pleases them. But, in times of the great depression, it is difficult to achieve such high-headed goals, and instead, the two men find odd jobs to be able to support themselves and attempt to advance toward the American Dream. This fictional book ends up telling many truths about American society. The American Dream, discrimination against others for being perceived differently, and the unity of friendship all appear within. Certainly, this work provides perspectives of the world humans have built for themselves. I would not recommend this book to anyone under the age of 12; this work is not one to read to a child at bedtime unless the child is quite intrigued to learn about the darkest hours of the world.
