Miles Halter, a fairly normal teenager that memorizes last words, is living a fairly normal life at his high school in Florida. However, after reading François Rabelais' last words "I go to seek a great perhaps", Miles decides it's time for him to seek his own great perhaps outside of Florida. At a private school in Alabama he meets a new friend called The Colonel and a gorgeous girl named Alaska, and finds his great perhaps. After a few months though, Alaska doesn't seem to be who Miles thought she was. During his time at Culver Creek Preparatory, he attempts to learn about who she is and why she goes from sweet and attractive to sullen and bawling. When he finally finds out who Alaska is, it's too late and nothing is the same. This book is a wonderful read for anyone who wants to fall in love and then have heartbreak all in one sitting. John Green introduces us to intelligent yet tragic teens, he gives us all a chance to fall in love with Alaska, and he shows you how beneficial a leap of faith can be.
