Lia and Beckett's Abracadabra is a fictional novel written by Amy Noelle Parks. Lia Sawyer is a 17-year-old that loves magic. She struggles to get approval from her parents, who would prefer for her to go into environmental science, or at least something more sophisticated like playing piano (as her sister does). On top of all that, Lia needs to find a way to prove to society that girls can be more than just pretty assistants.

Lia’s grandma is a talented magician that didn’t get any credit for her work. Instead, her partner Henry Blackwell claims that the tricks were all his idea. Lia’s grandma, also known as Matilda Montgomery, isn’t allowed to tell anyone the truth about her and Henry’s acts. Because of this, Montogomerys and Blackwells remain enemies for generations. But once Lia travels to Mirror Lake, the place where her grandma performed her acts, she finds herself in love with Beckett Blackwell. He takes her around Mirror Lake and she sees how many people scam money out of tourists. Once she learns what happened between her sister, Emma Sawyer, and another Blackwell boy, Elliot Blackwell, Lia wants revenge. She sets her goals: getting justice for her grandma and giving her the credit she deserves, getting revenge on Elliot for payback, all while meanwhile controlling her feelings for Beckett.

Once Lia discovers the truth about Matilda and Henry, she dedicates her summer to the magic contest her grandma set up, with the prize being her theater. Lia experiences some ups and downs along the way, but eventually, with the help of Beckett, she achieves her goal.

In my opinion, this is a pretty good book. I liked reading from Lia’s unique perspective and personality, as well as the interesting plot. I would recommend this book for teenagers13-15. I rate this book a 4, as I enjoyed reading it.
