Legend by Marie Lu is about a futuristic version of Los Angeles, ruled by the Republic of America. June is a strategic prodigy and is being raised to thrive in this Republic after she gets full marks on the Trial, a test to determine someone’s place in society. Day is an infamous criminal who has to steal medicine to protect his brother from the Plague, which has been ravaging poor sections of the Republic. When he accidentally kills June’s brother in the process, he has to outwit and escape June. This chase leads to secrets being revealed, and the lengths the Republic will go in order to keep them. Legend is one of the most thrilling dystopian novels I’ve ever read. June and Day are both incredibly compelling, and I was rooting for both of them. This book was fast-paced, action filled, and hooked me. Legend was an exciting thrill ride that I would recommend.
