The second book in Veronica Roth's Divergent series, Insurgent, is good, but it's underwhelming compared to its predecessor. As a war between the factions surges, Tris must make harsh decisions to save the people around her. This book was a rollercoaster, and while it wasn't boring by any means, it didn't quite capture my attention as Divergent did. I enjoyed Tris' realness; she is filled with flaws, but she is also brilliant, caring, and brave. Furthermore, I appreciated how realistic Tris and Tobias' relationship was; they had their fair share of ups and downs and share a significant number of imperfections between them. However, I didn't like how illogical Tobias and Tris became; they failed to understand the other and continually lied, creating unnecessary problems. Altogether I liked the darker tones that this book had, but some of the characters' personalities seemed unpredictable and not in a good way.
