In The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes, high schooler Avery Grambs is living out of
her car. Her only family is her sister, Libby, and Avery has her life planned out in hopes of a
better future. One day at school, she is informed that billionaire Tobias Hawthorne has died and
she has been left with his entire fortune. Hawthorne’s will requires her to live in his mansion for
a year to secure the fortune, but she will not be alone – she must live with Hawthorne’s family,
which includes his four grandsons. All Grayson Hawthorne wishes is for Avery to leave, while
Jameson Hawthorne believes that their grandfather left them one last game. Avery faces danger
from the new attention, and she must solve Tobias Hawthorne’s last game with the Hawthorne
brothers before it is too late.

This was such an amazing read! This was fast paced and packed with twists (I could not put this
book down). I think the author does a great job of describing the characters and setting in
enough detail that I could imagine it. I was fascinated by the Hawthorne mansion, and I enjoyed
reading all the riddles and clues. I wish there was more elaboration on Avery’s mother and her
secret; I hope there is more on this in the next book. I was also slightly disappointed that the
ending was a cliffhanger. Overall, this was a great book and I would recommend this to anyone
who likes mysteries and fast-paced books. I give this book a 4 out of 5 stars.
