The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins, is a young adult dystopian novel about Katniss Everdeen, who lives in a world separated into 12 Districts. These Districts are required to send two children into the Hunger Games, a televised competition where the two children chosen for each district must fight to the death. After her younger sister is chosen for the Hunger Games, Katniss chooses to volunteer and take her place. Katniss, who lives in the poorer District 12,has to rely on her wits and survival skills in order to survive the Games. The other tribute chosen is Peeta, a baker’s son who becomes an ally along with Haymitch, her mentor. This book is consistently thrilling, with an enticing plot. The action is suspenseful, and Katniss makes an excellent main character. This book is incredibly enjoyable.
