Hoot is very well written by Carl Hiaasen. Roy Eberhardt moves to Florida, is the new kid at school, and meets a strange kid named Mullet Fingers. At school he gets bullied and learns about the burrowing owls that would get destroyed if the new Pancake House gets built. During the course of the school year Roy learns new things about himself.
I would rate Hoot 4.5 stars out of 5 because of its humorous sarcastic wording. It is also very interesting how the character personalities progress throughout the book. I would recommend Hoot and all of Carl Hiaasen’s other books to anyone.
