A Honeybee Heart Has Five Openings: A Year of Keeping Bees by Helen Jukes Genres: Nonfiction – Memoir, Environment, Nature, Science

Helen Jukes, unsatisfied with her work and home life, receives a colony of bees as a gift from a friend. Recalling how she enjoyed her previous beekeeping experiences, she decides to keep and care for the colony in her backyard. She describes her year of beekeeping, all the while learning more about honey bees and rediscovering passion.

I am a learner and, having recently taken on an interest in bee conservation, received this book as a gift. I enjoyed the book very much because it provided me with a new perspective on bees and plenty of new information. The book is thorough in its examinations of the honey bee colony, hive, and history, and these examinations are related to the author’s experiences at work and while spending time with others. A curious individual interested in science and history, specifically learning more about a vital species, would enjoy A Honeybee Heart Has Five Openings.
