Hani and Ishu’s Guide to Fake Dating is written by Adiba Jaigirdar. It’s a contemporary romance with lots of humor. The main characters are Humaira Khan and Ishita Dey, or Hani and Ishu. Hani is a  Bangladeshi Irish, popular, easy-going person and has 2 popular best friends, Aisling and Dee. Ishu’s the complete opposite, an academic overachiever who seems to have no social life other than studying. When Hani comes out to her friends as bisexual, they immediately try to invalidate her because she’s never dated a girl. Panicked, Hani blurts that she’s dating Ishita Dey, the girl her friends hate. Afterwards, Hani approaches Ishu about her situation, and she agrees on fake dating on one condition; Hani helps her get popular so that Ishu can get the position of Head Girl in their school. It seems like the perfect plan, until Aisling and Dee start to get jealous of Ishu for taking Hani away from them. On the other hand, the more time Hani and Ishu spend together, the more they realize they have feelings for each other. Both want to turn their fake relationship real, but in their eyes even fake dating is better than rejection. I really liked reading this book, I think the best part of it was the wlw concept, and how it explored real life issues like biphobia and lesbophobia. I was disappointed during Ishu’s speech to why she should be head girl, but I can understand why she did what she did. I would recommend this to anyone who likes fake dating tropes or LGBTQ+ romance. I would rate this a 4 out of 5.
