I took a deep breath after I finished the last sentence of this novel… because I was on the edge of my seat! A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder is packed with many turns, twists, and traps that I, as a reader, was drawn and manipulated into. I’ll be honest, when I read the first 20 pages of this book, I felt as though I would be underwhelmed by this murder mystery. However, I was hooked when I got to the halfway point. Personally, I felt as if I was watching a thriller movie in incredible detail as I read because of the intricacy and thought behind each decision, action, and evidence that Holly Jackson put in this book. Before you pick up this book, keep in mind that this novel openly talks about topics such as sexual abuse, suicide, harassment, and of course death. Pippa, a senior in high school, is completing a project where she decides to investigate a murder case that closed 5 years ago. After she is convinced that the murder is wrongfully staged, she dives deeper to uncover secrets that her town and the people closest to her kept. As I mentioned earlier, the only downside of this book is that my patience was tested; meaning, the beginning of the novel was quite slow for me, but it was worth the wait that had me engrossed by the end of this book. Overall, I rate this book 4.5/5 stars.
