The Firekeeper’s Daughter was not what I expected. This book follows an indigenous woman who is trying to help herself and her community after going through some pretty horrible stuff.

This was a really intriguing book. I loved how I got to learn about indigenous culture through this book, but also have my mystery and thrills, I wish my textbooks were like this. That being said, there was a lot going on in this book, which most of the time worked in the favor of it but in other times it was overwhelming. The book also started out really good, maybe a little slow but it was a nice read. After one of the turning points, the book intensity increased a lot, which I kind of liked. But towards the end, it felt a little rushed, which was disappointing because I loved how the plot went and I wish there was more substance there just so I could have the trills for longer. I would overall give this book a 3/5 stars, even though I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I think everyone should read this book, even if it didn't get the highest rating. The opportunity to learn about indigenous culture in this alone was is way too good to not read it.
