Fighting Words is written by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley. The genre is realistic fiction and it’s about 2 girls, 10 year old Della and 16 year old Suki. Their mother was an addict and had a psychotic break, and their mom’s boyfriend Clifton never treated them right. Both of them are adopted by a woman named Francine, who isn't the nicest person in the world but not a bad person either. The book is written in the perspective of Della, and the book shows what she and her sister go through while trying to recover from the mental and physical abuse they went through from a long time of sexual abuse and sexual assault. Della has to go to a new school all over again and meet new teachers and classmates, and Suki gets a job but she doesn't have good mental health and has to go to a hospital after she tries self-harm to cope. Personally, I'd rate this book a 4/5 because I like how it addresses real problems, and how the book explains all the stuff that comes after. Fighting Words is a heart wrenching book with a lot of sad truths, but it’s worth reading. There are a lot of triggers though, so you should definitely look at the triggers first.
