Eyes of the Storm is a graphic novel, the third book of a 7-book series called Bone. At the end of the second book, everyone at the cow race were in disarray as the cows and rat creatures barged into the crowd, with Grandma Ben leading. Everyone survived and got home safely. Grandma, Thorn, the Bones, and Lucius(the local bartender who is a good friend of Grandma's) rebuild the house that was destroyed by the rat creatures in the first book. Thorn continues to have weird dreams in this book, and Fone Bone gets one too. Phoney Bone, Smiley, and Lucius head to Barrelhaven so the two Bones can pay him their debt off of losing the cow race. They encounter rat creatures when traveling but manage to escape. Meanwhile, a storm is brewing, and Fone Bone and Thorn head into the barn where they discuss their weird dreams. They become suspicious of Grandma Ben, because she knows something that they don't, and then suddenly they see her and find that she was eavesdropping the whole time. She ran into the forest to confront the Great Red Dragon, who was playing a part in everything that was happening. Thorn and Fone Bone follow. They encounter rat creatures, but the dragon scares them away. Grandma is about to give him a piece of her mind but he leaves. The next day Thorn confronts Grandma about her dreams and the rat creatures hear a bit and take it to their leader. Another storm is brewing simultaneously: it turns out that the rat creatures' leader's leader has a leader. Meanwhile, Grandma is telling Thorn a grave secret about why everything that is happening is happening, completely shattering her.

Smith keeps the book interesting by creating multiple places of rising action in it. I was on the edge of my seat especially at one point, when Grandma Ben surprises Thorn and Fone Bone and storms out. There is a sense of mystery as the evil hooded leader turns out to be reporting to someone else, who Grandma Ben describes as an ancient spirit with more power than an army of rat creatures. This is why I give this book a five out of five.
